As two science teachers from Teesside we decided to open up our own pub dedicated to great beer after an inspirational trip to Austria.

Michael Keen and Sam Hedley took a trip to Vienna and came home with an idea for a business, and two years later they finally opened their own bar in Middlesbrough town centre.

Named Bier & Bier, we specialise in top of the range alcoholic beverages, great live music and fine food.

Michael said “We went to Vienna about and we were doing a bit of bar hoping while there, we went into a bar called Bier & Bierli which was really cool inside and we loved it. So we decided to create our own version back home as there’s some great micro-pubs and bars already here. We thought it would fit in well and found this building which used to be a Ladbrookes bookies. We thought the size and location were perfect.”

Although it is something completely new we are excited to open our doors and welcome everyone in. “We’re both qualified teachers and taught science at Trinity Catholic College in Saltersgill.

Remaining inspired by the trip to Vienna we have stayed true to what we experienced over there. “The interior is done out quite similar but it’s also quirky while still very rustic. Because we are both science teachers we have posters on the wall that relate to that too.”

We have a great collection of draughts and beers for sale including Blue Moon, Berliner, Erdinger and Staropramen, but it isn’t just beer we also have a great selection of spirits as well as artisan gins and vodkas.

We are excited to bring our vision to everyone and hope you enjoy our story.
